Little Rock

I haven't posted a blog since August 1st! I have moved to Little Rock, AR and it has been quite the change. It has put me behind on quite a few things. I'm just now catching up. We finally got the internet up & running. Life can get kind of strange without the internet and phone. It was kind of a nice break, though! Little Rock is pretty danged cool. I already have tickets to see Les Miserables. I am also going to Treasure Island and Junie B. Jones at the children's theater. I'm also going to Lear's daughters at UALR as well as some other cool theatrical performances. There's some really neat productions coming to Memphis that I really would love to see. And Sweeney Todd at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville - OMG! I will have to look into that! I can't wait to take Amelia to the museum, river market and the diamond fields in Murfreesboro.
I've already made some belly dance friends. I am going to this huge hafla in Hot Springs in October. Little Rock has so much more to offer as far as things to do and see!

Amelia is in school. She loves it. I really like the school. Amelia is testing for the Alpha program (gifted/talented). She wants to be in it bad. I think she's kind of bored with her grade level.

I am in school for 9 hours. I didn't have enough classes to choose from since we moved so I took what I could get. This time around I am in theater classes (my minor which could be my 2nd major) and I'm also in anthropology which is way interesting!

So much to do.....but just wanted to let my friends know that I'm here in Little Rock!

Feel the burn.

I'm working thru pictures and albums - almost complete everyone! YAY!

I worked out today with Sara. We felt the burn today. This is our 3rd week of working out. I have a personal trainer helping me tomorrow. I'm really excited. So far I've lost 5 lbs. which I didn't really want to lose. But I can already tell a difference in my arms! I have little "mini" muscle beans. HA! Working out is the best. This is my newest addiction! Feel the burn!!!

Family & kids!

This is another cutie patootie I just photographed this past weekend! CUTE!

This is my aunty and her family. They hired me to do some really fun and relaxed photos of them and their kiddos. Nothing formal. Just laid back and being themselves.

And of course Amelia had to jump in on the action! I had to test my lights and gels and always need a subject to "test"

Cool word for the day! Folie à deux

Folie à deux (literally, "a madness shared by two") is a rare psychiatric syndrome in which a symptom of psychosis (particularly a paranoid or delusional belief) is transmitted from one individual to another. The same syndrome shared by more than two people may be called folie à trois, folie à quatre, folie à famille or even folie à plusieurs (madness of many). Recent psychiatric classifications refer to the syndrome as shared psychotic disorder and induced delusional disorder (folie à deux), although the research literature largely uses the original name.

He he he he........good ol' Colleen sent me that one. Ahhhh......yes.......we BOTH know some people who are that way and we don't wanna catch it!

Telectroscope

My ever so cool friend Colleen who has tons of fascinating internet links sent me this one today:

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/telectroscope/home.php

She always has the coolest links. Anyways, seeing this exhibit would be worth going to NYC for! How cool is this?!

And she sent me this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/12/bill-oreilly-on-inside-ed_n_101267.html

Be forwarned there is some dirty language in the video. It's Bill O'Reilly having a meltdown! Fantastic ;-)

I can't get the links to be clickable....sorry! You'll have to copy/paste!

Daydreams of body paint, color & fairy tales!

I "led" a class in Eureka Springs on Sunday. My session was "Daydreams of body paint, color & fairy tales!" Here is the description of my class:

"What do you dream about at night? I'm a dreamer just like most of you. I like photographing themed images that are visually captivating. This photo shoot will be a show stopper and is a must for your portfolio!

I plan on transforming a model into a character that would be perfect for any fairy tale. I will be using body paint to create imagery on her as well as using the paint for a bra-like top. I am going to have some kind of flowing skirt made of tulle attached to her. She will have huge hair, incredible make-up and accessories galore! The model will be adorned and you will want to photograph every aspect of her!

I have not chosen the exact theme but she will be exotic, ethereal and something right out of your wildest fantasies! She will be some kind of fairy, mermaid, or some sort of creative being. You will not want to miss out on this!"

Anyways, I knew it was going to be a LOT of work. I enlisted Colleen to help me!! Colleen is majoring in art, too. We both loved the idea of a human canvas! I've been collecting stuff for several months now for the shoot. I bought some of the Ben Nye body paints in Vegas. Colleen brought her elf ears. We used eyebrow plastic/wax to cover the models eyebrows and re-created them with rhinestones. We painted non-stop from 11 am until 3pm. The hair was created with a styrofoam ball and human hair extensions. We used spirit gum and eyelash glue to create the patterns and glue things to the models body. The "pasties" are iron on patches from hobby lobby. The lime green shiny skirt is material I got from hobby lobby. We safety pinned it on her. The big poof skirt with the attached wings are something my mom made and I used it for this particular shoot! Melanie is the model!
